  Where is the money ?

  some of the signatures here say that jw are a moneykollecting company, it is very hard to think.

  if you compare to other religions as mormons for exampel it is a bigg diffrens.if we where out for the money we could use other methodes much better.. i think that i never se any form of evedens on this.. so if some here have this, show it.

  Here are the perks for being a governing body member or director at the WTBTS:

  1. A nice apartment overlooking the East River in very expensive Brooklyn Heights. All redecorating and remodeling expenses taken care of by the WTS.

  2. Three square meals each day. I remember that Fred Franz and others had their meals specially prepared and delivered to their rooms in the evening.

  3. First class travel and accomodations during very frequent trips to conventions and foreign visits.

  4. Absolute adoration by the fleeced flock. As mentioned by others, people hang on every word they say, give them untold gifts and money. These guys know every wealthy and well off Witness in every country in the world. All they need do is make a desire known and they are taken care of.

  5. For this they perpetuate the mythology that the organization is a direct conduit from God to the rest of pitiful mankind. They obfuscate information and produce countless hoops for the rest of the Witnesses to jump through.

  Load of crap

  in reading previous posts, i had to notice how many of the threads deal with people in the organization who have had serious problems and instead of getting help from the elders, they are driven away sometimes into suicide or a life of severe depression.

  it reminds me of my sister.

  when i was being reproved for leaving home, i was trying to make the point of why i had to leave the way i did and i related that 2 months earlier my sister had ran away because of a beating my mother had given her, and my sister thought my mother was going to kill her.

  I certainly agree that there are many reasons for this harshness in the punishment of children in congregations. The socio-economic angle seems valid to me. As a friend of mine once said, whilst we were both still JW's, "the WTS appeals to the world's down and outers".

  In the area in which I grew up, there were many of eastern European and Germanic desent who appeared cold, harsh and aloof with their children. Hence my observation about the German influence in Witness attitudes towards punishing der kinder.

  As you read the examples above, what would you expect from the adherants of a cult that is infatuated with the words "ROD OF CORRECTION"? Growing up a JW I saw a number of young kids slapped in the face in public, kicked by parents and adults during meetings for making too much noise and otherwise mistreated at home. My parents themselves, while not "SPARING THE ROD" were at least discreet enough to use it in the privacy of our home for more serious offenses other than making a mistake.

  I often wondered if the strong influence of the Germans in the WTS resulted in this desire to beat evil out of children.

  I'll give this a try:

  When a boy is born and is breast fed his first sensation is that of security that breasts provide and a source of liquid nourishment. The two mammary glands provide the little guy with two companions who provide comfort and a sense of belonging. Not to mention liquid nourishment. This is why, later in life, you'll often see a man drinking at a bar standing between two boobs, namely his drinking buddies.

  How many hours are falsely reported?

  in the january 1 issue of each year, they harp on about how many hours the jws did last year etc etc.. how many hours are possibly falsely reported?.

  When I first started pioneering I was very precise in reporting my time. But the last two months of my first year I only put in about 90 hours one month and 95 hours the next. Well, I got a nasty letter from the Service Department stating that if I didn't meet my 100 hour requirment they would put me off the pioneer roll. Of course in 1968 that would have meant no more ministers standing with the draft board and Vietnam here we come. So from that moment on I always had at least 100 hours, plenty of magazine placements and at least 3 bible studies a month. Funny, it just seemed to work out that way.

  I often wondered how the WTS could treat people who were volunteers and got no money for their efforts like crap. Well I guess when you're "God's organization", you can.

  Wt will Win case Before Supreme Court

  i think the small time lawyer will be out gunned on this one- most small towns always end up passsing goofy laws like this one.

  while i have no love for wt i do know a poorly written law when i see one exp when the mayor is walking around in affect saying: "ww want to keep you people out".

  the boys in legal laugh when they see some elective dude say some off the cuff remark like that.

  I really don't see how asking canvassers in a community to register their presence is a threat to first amendment rights. It could serve to protect the JW's from police suspicion while going door to door.

  Communities require all kind of parade permits for people who protest (free speech). I'm not sure that requiring registration of presence won't be upheld by the court. It poses NO threat to free speech.

  Rutherford the Marxist??

  rutherford went on and on about 'classes' of people: the esther class, the mordicai class, the haman class, etc.

  from where did this class bs come?

  russel had previoussly stated it was his belief that anarchy would break out as working classes revolted against their capilist masters.. an important doctrine of marx, and one of their main hopes later, after the bolshevik revolution was that the lower classes in society would rise up en mass and topple their govt's, thus embracing communism in country after country.. and so, it leads to my question of the origin of rutherford's creation of classes of people that corresponded to biblical characters.

  Interesting stuff. It sounds like Rutherford lived about 100 years too soon. He would have been a natural in the Bill Clinton political staff. Just think of it, Joe Rutherford and James Carville on CNN defending Bubba.
